The Lord is My Shepherd
It’s hard to know what to say sometimes.
When the world is loud and there are people who hurt and there is so much you want to do and there are circumstances that are beyond your control... in the midst of a global pandemic and an a divisive election and massive injustices... and when despite all of that, there is laundry to do and a baby to feed and bills to pay and a marriage to tend to... it can just be hard to find the right words.
We are all going through so much. There is so much noise and chaos. Much of it needs our attention. Some of it, of course, does not. All of it can become pretty overwhelming pretty quickly.
I was reminded this morning that there is a God who offers peace in the midst of life’s overwhelm. A God who calls us to rest. A God who walks before us and who restores our soul and comforts us shelters us and blesses us.
Psalm 23 is just 6 verses long. It says, “The Lord is shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures. He leads me beside still waters. He restores my soul. He leads me in paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me; your rod and your staff, they comfort me. You prepare a table before me in the presence of my enemies; you anoint my head with oil; my cup overflows. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life, and I shall dwell in the house of the Lord forever.”
That’s what I’m meditating on today.
